A Tisket, A Tasket. Lots and Lots of Baskets!

I was very excited when I won this old-ish belt canvas on eBay.

It's a Gail Hendrix design and features a repeating pattern of creel fishing and Nantucket baskets.  A closeup:

My brother-in-law is a fly fisherman and I was originally going to stitch the belt for him but after looking at it, I think the Nantucket baskets make it a wee bit feminine.  So another one for me!  Since my Nantucket basket is super old and has seen better days, I spent some time searching Etsy for the perfect companion accessory.

A decorative version featuring a fish clasp

A pretty monogrammed Nantucket basket purse

This basket has a neat story. It's from the 1920s and was passed down from father to son.

A key fob to stitch to coordinate with my belt.  I love the blue background and think I may use a shade similar to this for the belt.

I found lots of charms that would look sweet on a charm bracelet

This pincushion would be perfect to hold my needles

I can't wait to get started on the belt!

  1. Oh what fun! I learned to weave baskets a few years ago and the creel looks like so much fun to make! I got out of the habit after about a year and moved on to woodburning and leather work. LOVE the needlework belt!
