More Than Just an Aunt

JDD and I are not only Hadley's aunt and uncle, we're now her godparents.  Hadley was baptised last month at our family church, where my sister, Sarah, and I were also baptised.  Big Daddy now 'lives' behind the church, in the cemetary, which dates back to the 1700s. :-)

Potomac United Methodist Church

Hadley wore the same christening gown as Mother, Sarah and I did.  It's amazing to think that three generations of W women all wore the same gown.

Hadley was in very good spirits during the service.  I think she knew it was her big day.

PUMC does a neat thing during every service where the Dr. Laprade invites all the children up to the altar before they head off to Sunday school.

Pretty soon, it was time for Hadley's moment.  She was great!

Godparents and Goddaughter

Parents, Hadley, Godparents

After church, it was time for lunch.  Our family has been dining at Normandie Farm since my grandparents moved back to Maryland in 1972.  In fact, my parents had their wedding reception at Normandie Farm that year.

Hadley was the star of the afternoon

My aunt and uncle live in Sweden part of the year but came home just to see Hadley.  This was the first meeting for them and I think all three were smitten.
Hadley looks to be very interested in Helena's popover.

And she loved Uncle Chip's tie

In 1970, my aunt, Helena, was an exchange student from Stockholm.  Her host family lived next door to my family. She and Uncle Chip were the same age and spent their senior year of high school together as classmates.  My aunt abondoned her plans to return to Sweden that summer and went to University of Kentucky with my uncle.  They've been together ever since!

Hadley was pooped by the end of the afternoon
