Happy Halloween!!

Spooky Spider Spencer is not only celebrating Halloween but also our Richmond Spiders.  We are 8-0 and hopefully on our way to Chattanooga again this year.  Go Spiders!

Not too happy to be dressed up

Posing with some of the pumpkins

Running around the front yard trying to get his costume off

Happy Halloween, Everyone!

I am the crazy lady who dresses her pets for Halloween

I was never one for Halloween.  Until my furry children came along.  I started with the cats, but they really weren't that into it (can you blame them?!) so they each have only one costume they wear year after year.  Spencer, on the other hand, has at least one costume each year.  Here's a quick trip down memory lane of Halloweens past.  I'll post his 2009 costume Friday or Saturday.

2008- The Republican Party!  His elephant collar is underneath all the streamers.

2007- Mardi Gras dragon

2006- Chicken Little

2005- A Pumpkin (his first Halloween- only nine months old)

The cats circa 2003- the last time I was able to snap a picture of their Halloween finery.  Angus is the angel on the left and Devin is the devil on the right. I couldn't have found more perfect costumes for their personalities. And their names. ;-)

Whitney's Wednesday Wares

After seeing the fantastic clothes, accessories, home furnishings and other accoutrements my fellow bloggers have been posting, I've decided to do a weekly series to highlight a few of my favorite things.  Since my blog is dedicated to my preppy puppy, one item will be for pets and the other will be something fabulous pour moi.  Ou vous. ;-)  I'm excited to kick off this first installment!

Last month I finally replaced my huge, ugly coffee table with a more stylish upholstered ottoman.  To keep things neat I decided to use a tray to store things that were normally on the coffee table.  I found just what I was looking for on The Gifting Gumshoe's great blog.  It's the preppy monogrammed serving tray from The Pink Giraffe. There were too many fabrics and fonts from which to choose so I just chose one identical to the picture.  I love it!

A great site for all the fur moms is the shopping section of Pampered Puppy.  It aggregates all the best pet products and allows you to search a number of ways- color, lifestyle, occasion, etc.  Angie McKaig runs the site and also does a great monthly newsletter that includes articles and reviews of merchandise her pug, Merry, has tried out.  Pampered Puppy recommends the Haute Hound for the Save My Planet organic toys.  Spencer and I can vouch for both the shop and the toys.  With our big election for governor next week, what better toy to share than the African elephant. ;-)

Happy Shopping!

WW (and no, I don't mean my initials)

As if my clothes hadn't clued me in already, I realized after looking at some pictures from the summer that I am fat.      F-A-T.  I've moved past the chubby or pleasantly plump realm into the fat world. I’ve never been thin (thanks for the big bones, Big Daddy) but I’ve also never been this big. The last diet I tried was my senior year in college when Mommy Dearest mandated strongly suggested I take Fen-Phen. It worked like a charm but Wyeth got worried about the silly heart murmur class action suits and pulled it. Darn them! Since regimented eating and exercising really aren’t my things, all the lbs that I took off have come back through the years.

I found the biggest motivation to do something about it, not in the pictures and fat clothes, but from an unlikely source. Please forgive this catty story. A colleague mentioned she was doing Weight Watchers and had lost six pounds in three weeks. I really like this girl but I’ve always thought of her as the ‘big girl’ at work. The fact that I knew she was going to quickly get smaller than me was the real kick in the pants I needed. I didn’t want to become the ‘big girl’. So as of September 14, I am a Weight Watcher. I am happy to say the program is going well and I love the point tracking part (I love me some data). In a little over five weeks, I have lost 10.6 pounds. Not a huge number but more weight than I’ve lost in a LONG time. I have 25 more to go and really, really, really want to get there. I’m not going to check in on the blog every week but will post my milestones. I debated ‘going public’ with this but decided the more accountability I had, the better I will do. And with Christmas cookies, roast beef and Yorkshire pudding a mere five weeks away I am going to need all the help I can get.

September 5: fatty fatty two by four

October 10: -8 pounds. I think my face looks a little thinner.

Santa came early

They're here! They're here! What you ask? Our Christmas cards! I was so excited to see a big package from Vana Chupp of Le Papier Studio when I arrived home from work Friday. Vana was wonderful to work. She was super patient with me as I sent her multiple pictures and when I asked her to make a few cosmetic changes to the drawing. Spencer is the dog behind me (of course!), Devin is lying down next to my feet and Angus is sitting up next to Dave. Vana also created the return address label.

The front of the card says
"Maybe Christmas", he thought "doesn't come from a store. Maybe Christmas... perhaps... means a little bit more". -- Dr. Seuss

The inside message is
Wishing you a bright and delightful holiday season
With love, Dave, Whitney, Devin, Angus and Spencer

I love everything and can't wait to send them to our friends and family. I also think I'm going to ask her to mount the front of the card on wood so that I can display it with our other decorations.

May I please introduce...

... The Preppy Pink and Green Puppy, TT.  Now I know you're thinking, what on earth is TT?  Is it the terrible twos?  Maybe Spencer got a new Audi?  Or perhaps he's mad at me and saying "tough tootie". While they are great suggestions, they are all incorrect.  Spencer's new initials mean he is now Temperament Tested. YEA!!!!  We went to Chesterfield today (southwest of the big RIC) to take the test, which was hosted by a pit bull rescue.  Spencer met lots of new dog friends, most of whom were either pit bulls or ridgebacks.  The Spencester got lots of attention since he was the smallest and cutest. ;-)

The test is made up of 10 subtests that measure aspects of a dog's temperament such as friendliness toward strangers, stability and protectiveness toward it's owner.  Many times I've been told Spencer is the friendliest Cavalier people have met so I wasn't worried about his friendliness however he does get a bit nuts when he's excited to meet new people so I was worried about how he'd act around all these new people.  He was fantastic!  The lead tester told us afterward that Spencer received above average or superior on each of the subtests.  Way to go, Little Man!

Waiting for our turn to take the test.

After our victory and a late lunch in Carytown, we stopped by my alma mater for a walk around campus.  Here we are on Westhampton Green.

I am glad one of us was able to rest on the long drive home.

Pink, green and ruffles- these are a few of my favorite things

Welcome to my home new MBP bag by Gussy.  The Preppy Pink and Green Puppy and I can't wait to tote you around the city.  I know it's out of season but I'll have to break out his pink and green whales collar and harness so he coordinates.

American's Next Top Dog

Have you seen the super cute webisodes featuring Bond, a millionaire mutt, seeking his perfect princess? Best of all, one of the potential princesses, is a Cavalier- Hoprah the Talk Show Queen.

Bio: What can we say about Hoprah that you don't already know? This billionaire "Queen of Green" from Chi town could sell a toaster to a slice of bread. Her secret to success reads better than most Hollywood scripts. Growing up in poverty and becoming a self-made mega-star has earned her one of Doggiwoods Magazine's most eligible "Bitchlorettes." With a talk show and a magazine bearing her name, everything Hoprah touches turns to sold! Hoprah believes she will win Bond's heart because, "If this cutie pie knew what was good for him, he'd pick me. If he doesn't, I will invite him on my show, force him to jump up and down on my couch like a monkey, and ruin his fragile reputation. He'll wish he never met me. However, if he picks me, I'll give him a brand new car... and a toaster."
